Leigh High School has long had an outstanding reputation for excellence in its musical and performing arts programs. Through a succession of graduating classes, faculty and directors, the PAPA community has provided consistent, accountable and enthusiastic support of our children and the staff who support their dreams. Successive generations of Leigh Longhorns have been able to feel sure and proud of their parents’ support through PAPA. Most people are not aware that a majority of financial, physical and organizational support for our musical events and competitions is supplied by parent donations, parent labor, parent-supported PAPA donations and parent-driven PAPA fund-raisers, rather than district budget, staff and faculty.The amazing thing about PAPA is that it does so much to enhance the performing arts programs at Leigh High School without impacting district budgets. Indeed, at current district budget levels, programs such as Marching Band, Field and Winter competitions, and field trips such as last year’s Hawaii Statehood Celebration performances would be either impossible or significantly reduced in scope. PAPA is completely volunteer run organization, supporting all of the performing arts students, teachers, staff and organizations at Leigh High School.
